Social environment and sustainable building
We design new construction systems aiming for a new, energy-efficient building model.
Buildings are responsible for 40% of the energy consumed in most developed countries. ACCIONA Infrastructure considers that responsible construction methods can help reduce climate change and the massive consumption of energy resources. The knowledge and technology necessary for this are under development within the framework of the Cenit CETICA Project (The Eco-Technological City), in which ACCIONA Infrastructure participates together with 15 other partners.
The objective of the CETICA Project is to promote strategic industrial research of the future in the service of eco-efficient construction. The project focuses on designing and developing eco-efficient communities with a clear focus on the end user. The CETICA Project covers technology ranging from the design of steel-based materials and their industrialisation, and energy production and supply, to energy management and adaptation all focused on the user via ambient intelligence, all to create an urban ecosystem.
Within CETICA, ACCIONA Infrastructures works on the development of advanced construction materials, such as coatings with new applications and high added value. This is the case with self-cleaning coatings, which are implemented into the designs of advanced construction units to allow for the industrialisation of their production with construction time reduced by 70%, and a corresponding increase in productivity and the environmental advantage gained from reduced production waste (at least 50% of materials are recycled).
In order to combine the materials containing steel, ACCIONA Infrastructures is working on new adhesives and other adhesion technology which will allow for the final elements to comply with the structural, acoustic and thermal requirements of current and future standards.
Another field developed by ACCIONA Infrastructures is the design of software that will make it possible to measure the energy consumption of a neighbourhood, whether for an urban rebuilding project or in the planning of new urban centres.
Other ACCIONA businesses participate in the Project (Solar and Facilities), in order to make the integration of renewable energy in construction, the use of bioclimatic architecture and high added-value materials, into a reality.
