ACCIONA Infrastructure is currently building the tunnel for the AVE (high speed train) in the province of Cuenca. A concrete recycling machine is used at the site to prevent the generation of waste and dust.

In September 2006 work started on the project for the tunnel for the section of AVE line between the towns of Horcajadas and Naharros, in the province of Cuenca.

The construction of this tunnel, 3,956.8 metres long, uses a boring machine. To offset the environmental impact of the project are the following environmental protection measures:

• The Installation of a water and aggregates recycling machine at the concrete plant on site. This implies that after washing the concrete mixer tanks in an intake hopper, the water is separated from the aggregate which is reused for concrete with low quality requirements. In this way, the concrete mixers are washed in controlled zones, and at the same time no waste is generated, as on the one hand the concrete separated in the hopper is reused to produce new concrete, and on the other hand water is reused.
• Waste water treatment system for water from the machinery washing zone.
• Laying of asphalt in order to avoid dust emissions from the concrete plant and accidental spillage.
