Metallic structures
More than 50 years of experience in the field of metallic structures.
The Metallic Structures Department of ACCIONA Infrastructures is an auxiliary construction branch that was founded in 1950. It has facilities in San Sebastian de los Reyes (Madrid) with more than 6,000 m2 of workshops and 100,000 m2 of land with 75 workers, which rises to 400 during peak working periods.
The Metallic Structure Department works in the following areas of construction:
- Metallic construction.
- Sliding formwork.
- Maritime works.
- Special operations.
The metallic construction area performs blueprint studies and assessments for their optimisation, and provides analysis to establish operational strategies. The department then coordinates the project either with its own engineering arm or with external engineering departments. To this end it has its own workshops for engineering (precision welding, IPP, paint, and more), manufacturing and assembly. Finally, it offers on-site setup.
Some of its noteworthy projects include the Alameda Bridge in Valencia, the Palacio de las Artes (Palace of the Arts) also in Valencia, the Guadalfeo Viaduct in Granada, the Tenerife Auditorium (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) and the Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid among others.
The area of sliding formwork carries out suitability studies for potential sliding, as well as for design, manufacture and onsite setup. Some of the projects in its portfolio include the Triana Tower in Seville, Silos in Andorra, and the Chimenea de Puentes de García Rodríguez (356 m high) in Coruña.
The maritime works area boasts broad experience in construction, manufacture, and installation of breakwater mooring. This area is responsible for the world’s largest caissons, with a height of more than 34 metres. Two outstanding examples of its work include the Kugira caisson and the Balea caisson.
Finally, within the special operations area, the metallic structures department has important projects such as the Miradero Conference Centre in Toledo, the reaction ring of the tunnel boring machine for Madrid’s M-30 southern bypass, the prototype of the seat for the Mariscal Monument in Valladolid, the Caja Madrid Obelisk by architect Santiago Calatrava in Madrid, and the thrust for the AVE viaducts in Arcos de Jalón and Zaragoza.
